Honeymoon Check List

Right Now
  • Research for a credit card that has "frequent flyer" points.
  • Research your honeymoon destination options
6 Months To Go
  • Book airline flights...and if you're doing it yourself, don't forget inter-island flights (especially important for Fiji and Tahiti)
  • Reserve a rental car (do you need one? In Waikiki, we'd say "no"...Maui, we'd say "yes")
  • Reserve hotel rooms and/or cruise ship accommodations (for cruise ships, often you'll need transfers from the airport!)
  • If you're traveling to a foreign port, now is a good time to find out if any immunizations are required (your travel agent will help you with this). Note that some will need to be taken in several doses with weeks in between!
3-4 Months To GO
  • If you're going international, get your passports and visas in order.
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance, just to be on the safe side.
  • Create a wedding website to let everyone know about the event...and send out a note (or use our e-postcards) to show everyone where your wedding website is located. Tip: this is a graceful way to also let people find out where you're registered.
2-3 Months To Go
  • Research local restaurants and events available at your honeymoon destination and add photos and specific descriptions to your registry accordingly.
  • If you need luggage or a camera ("must-haves" on your honeymoon), or whatever, don't forget to add them to your other registries. In fact, now is a great time to make certain that key people in your family and wedding party know all about all of your registries.
  • Send your wedding invites (and include a note about your wedding website).
1 Month To Go
  • Write up your honeymoon packing (and shopping!) list.
  • Find out the easiest way to use money/credit. Most places in the world...but not all...will have ATMs and will take credit cards. You might want to purchase Travelers Checks or get a "Travel Money" card.
2 Weeks To Go
  • Confirm flight information and tickets.
  • If possible, acquire some currency ($100 or so) of the country you'll be visiting.
1 Week To GO
  • If you chose not to arrange for a housesitter, see to it that your pets will be fed and exercised (or kenneled) while you're away.
  • Contact the post office and ask them to hold your mail.
  • Discontinue newspaper delivery until you return.
  • Contact any stores you're registered with, and ask them to hold any gifts.
  • Make a few photocopies each of any important papers, including passports, Traveler's Check numbers, insurance documents, itinerary, credit cards-anything that might be helpful in an emergency. Give these to trusted friends or family members. Pack one set and take them along.
  • Pick up any other items you might need.
  • Have your prescriptions filled.
  • Lay out your marvelous new clothes for packing!
2-3 Days To Go
  • Be sure you've made provisions for your trips to and from the airport
  • Reconfirm overseas flights and hotel reservations.
  • Check the weather forecasts for your destinations.
  • Leave a copy of your house keys with a friend or relative.
  • Set your house timers (Michael says: check out X10 home automation systems!).
  • Change your voicemail message at home and at work.
1 Day To Go
  • Make sure your bags are packed and labeled with luggage tags. Grab some bright colored stickers or tape and mark your bags so you can easily spot them on the baggage carousels.
  • To avoid potential hassles at the airport, keep your prescription drugs in their original bottles and pack them in your purse or carry-on luggage; keep your manicure set and sewing kit in your checked baggage.
  • Sunscreen: sure, it'll be available at the hotel, but at what price? Stock up with a bottle from home, and throw in some Aloe Vera as well. Just be sure to put it in your carry-on luggage, NOT in your checked luggage, as air pressure differences on the plane might cause it to explode all over the inside of your suitcase!
  • Put all your travel documents and tickets together.
The Big Day!!
  • If you're leaving right after your reception, give your travel info and tickets to a trusted, sure-to-be-sober, member of the bridal party.
  • Have your luggage packed and loaded into the vehicle that will be taking you to the hotel or airport.
